Privacy
From May 2018, European legislation requires sites to be clear about what information they collect. This site will not explicitly collect anything until the owners are satisfied it complies with the letter and spirit of that legislation. If you would like us to be aware of your visit, please get in touch via the 'Contact Us' section. That will reveal your contact address (your email), for the purpose of peer-to-peer correspondence.
This is not a commercial site. It does not make money. It exists to share things with people that may be interested.
In order to visit, your browser has to be connected with this site's server, where the material is kept. To make the connection, each link has to be aware at least of the link on either side. Some information is visible to every link in the chain. As a minimum, that chain will usually include your Internet Service Provider and our Web Host. The owners of this site trust those parties to be compliant with GDPR legislation but cannot be responsible for their actions.
Cookies
This site has been designed not to require any cookies. If you have cookies from an earlier, pre-GDPR version, you may safely delete them.
Web fonts
Web fonts used on this site are on the same server so there is no need to notify a licensing body of your visit. Supplier fontspring.com makes this possible.
Analytics
In order to make the selection of material more appealing, the site's owners are interested to know which pages are most visited, which other site's have links to it, whether you download any scores and whether you follow any links to other sites. It is useful to know what devices and operating systems (e.g. laptop, Windows, Ubuntu, Android, Ipad) people are using so that the site's layout can fit the platform.
The site has made use of Matomo (formerly Piwik) for counting pages visited. Unlike market-leading Analytics, that includes no information about other sites you visit, except the immediate link to or from this site. The Analytics function will remain out of action until we are satisfied it complies with the legislation. If it is reinstated, our choice is not to collect the whole IP address, so that remains anonymized and cannot identify you. If you ask for data held about you, the answer will be that there are no data which are known to be yours, as no unique identifier is recorded. Most browsers offer a 'Do not track' option, which this site will honour. If you prefer Canossa not to be aware of your visit, set your 'Do not track' before your visit; even if we ever resume collecting statistics of page visits, yours will be ignored.
Harmful access
If a visit causes damage, whether inadvertently or deliberately, the owners will use any available information for the purposes of repair and preventing recurrence. Since the site was established, there have been no cases of inadvertent damage. If inadvertent damage ever occurs, information will only be shared confidentially for those purposes of repair and preventing recurrence. Evidence relating to deliberate damage may be shared with any authority provided under English law.
External sites
YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud host some recordings of our compositions. They look best embedded onto pages. Until the site's owners are satisifed that can be done in a compliant manner, they will be replaced by links. If you choose to have links pre-loaded without an explicit request, that is your own choice, made in your browser settings. It may notify those sites that you have visited our page but that will be a matter between you and them.
Welcome
Even with all the legal small print, you are still welcome here. Thank you for taking an interest in our art and music.
